Tuesday, July 21, 2026 (12:30 PM - 1:30 PM) (CDT)
Description
Topic: Open Meetings Laws | Speaker: Beverly Katz
In South Dakota, "Open Meetings" laws guarantee the public's right to access and participate in government affairs. They require local and state public bodies to give advance notice of meetings, deliberate in public, and keep accessible records of their decisions. The laws can be found at SDCL Ch. 1-25. The principle is that the public is entitled to the fullest possible access to information regarding public affairs, thereby promoting transparency and encouraging meaningful public participation in government. This session will cover a brief overview of the open meetings laws.
