
Assistant County Attorney
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Admission to the bar of the State of Iowa, or eligible to take and pass the next available Iowa Bar Examination
Assistant Sioux County Attorney
Criminal prosecutors are given substantial responsibility early in their careers and generally start handling various cases beginning with making charging determinations, overseeing discovery, handling pre-trial litigation, plea negotiating with defense counsels, and ending with an agreed to sentence or presentation of the case in a jury trial. Opportunities to handle more serious and complex cases are afforded as more experience is gained.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Prosecution of state law violations in criminal court
- Preparing cases including research, brief writing, drafting pleadings, trial preparation, eliciting testimony, and oral arguments before a jury or judge
- Plea negotiating with defense counsels
- Assisting law enforcement agencies in investigations and charging decisions
- Representing the state in mental health commitments, fine collection, juvenile delinquencies, and child welfare cases
- Attending and presenting professional development trainings
